It's not an official adoption, but yes Robert and I have taken POA over a 21 YO! SO it's like having a child but without diapers! Of course these young men come with lots of baggage but have this enormous need to be loved!
The struggle between the need for love and total independence is amazing. The last 3 days of our adoption (as I call it) have been a struggle adjusting! It's like someone going through rehab!
Nevertheless we are in this for the long run! We will fight on his behalf until we find him on the path so that he contributes something to society.
Twelve years ago at a mid-life crisis I left to be what I am today. I id not do it right and I dedicate this to my x wife for NOW I understand what she went through with my biological son! I am sorry Isabel! You deserve everything I left you and more for the pain you must have gone through!
I think we both love our children today! Though they mature at different phases, both our biological children are over 30 (not that it mean maturity) and seem to be ok.
Robert and I now have this challenge, and after a long time instead of just thanking the creator I asked for wisdom to deal with this new member of our family!
Both Rob and I have lots of love to give Joey! Since Love conquers all, I believe the good will prevail!
